Legendary designer Tinker Hatfield has chosen the iconic Air Jordan V as his canvas to celebrate the past and look to the future, thus gifting this “Fab Five” iteration to friends and family of Jordan Brand.
“If you were watching college basketball in the early ‘90s, the Fab Five stuck with you. They brought a new style of play,” said Hatfield. “They had swagger to their game that I hadn’t seen at the college level before. They became one of the most iconic teams in college sports. I wanted to create a special shoe that celebrated that team and marks the start of a new era for the teams at the Jordan Brand and the University of Michigan.”
In paying homage to University of Michigan’s signature yellow hue, Tinker draped the Jordan V in a can’t-miss maize color, while the black tongue then welcomes “M” embroidered on front and “Hail To” and “The Victors” stitched on the inside of the left and right tongues respectively. The back heel welcomes a specially created logo representing the “five times” sign that the team occasionally used during their time at the school.
Unfortunately, the Air Jordan V “Fab Five” will not be making its way to retail, as again, it is solely a gift from Hatfield to friends and family.
You can, however, cop these all-black Air Jordan 1s in the near future.
